As dusk fell over the little Australian town of Mildura, in northern Victoria State, an strange pink glow lit up the sky. The sight induced near panic in some.

like other stunned locals, Ms Szumowski's mind initially went elsewhere - was it an alien invasion? An asteroid? "Mum's on the phone and Dad's in the background going: 'I better hurry up and eat my tea because the world's ending.'" "And Mum's like: 'What's the point of eating your tea if the world's ending?'" Another local, Nikea Champion, first thought it was a really bright red Moon - before realising the light was originating from the ground. "All these end of the world scenarios were going through my head," she told the BBC.

On investigation it was found it was all down to the local cannabis farm. [No, they were not all stoned, the photo is real!] The location of the licenced farms is kept secret. They grow for medicinal use which is legal in Australia although not for recreational use. A doctor has to prescribe it.

This farm uses special “grow lights” to encourage their crop at night. That evening O’Leary’s commentary on Murphy’s Law was demonstrated. Murphy declared that if anything can go wrong, it will. O’Leary commented that Murphy was an optimist.

That evening the backout blinds failed to operate so light spilled upwards. That would not have been a problem if the weather had not been cloudy with lots of water vapor in the air. The resulting light show probably means that the farm will have to be like Pence - relocated to an undisclosed location. It also raises the question — how come the township was unaware of the farm? Growing cannabis can be …. fragrant shall we say.
