Cowduck, still the smallest, is considerably bigger now.
In the few weeks they've been alive, those little boogers have really blown up.
Lasagna, the next-smallest, wriggles so much it was hard to get even a blurry picture.
I'd put three each into two separate brooders. And that was adequate for maybe a week. Clearly, it was time to let them back outside. I spent yesterday out there cleaning up the smaller pen-within-a-pen for them to occupy until they're big enough to mingle with the grownups.
Just before taking them outside. You can see a few little pinfeathers here and there.
They were not happy campers at first.
But they soon discovered the nice, bigger water bowl they can now enjoy.
And in no time at all the pool party was underway.
Bigs are investigating the littles now. No aggression, just curiosity.
While I was at Tractor Supply yesterday I noticed they had chicks. Because of course they did.
Not only chicks, but Easter Eggers and Cuckoo Marans. Goddess help me.
I made myself wait 24 hours to think about it. In actuality it took me maybe fifteen minutes, tops.
And because I miss having Easter Eggers, and have always wanted Cuckoo Marans, because of the five chooks I already have only two are still laying eggs, and because I'm an absolute sucker and have zero ability to tell myself no…
Yeah, I did. I brought home two of each. Hey, it could just as easily have been a baker's dozen!
So the smaller brooder is still there, and still occupied.
Dang you, Tractor Supply. Dang you to heck.
