There is a basketball game coming up between the Dodgeville Donkeys and the Elkhart Elephants. The Donkeys are fired up. The Donkeys coach is new to the game that’s full of enthusiasm. Very well liked by the players. They have been practicing their shots and they have been practicing their rebounds. They’ve even practiced passing the ball.
Meanwhile the Elephants have been practicing set plays that are expected to surprise the Donkey defense. They have been practicing trash talk that will get under the skin of each Donkey player. Elkhart’s coach has been with the team 20 years, and spends a week every off-season at coaching camp to get the details right.
The playing field isn’t quite level. The referees come all the way from Chicago, but they are loyal Elkhart alumni and will make calls in favor of the Elephants every chance they get. A road crew creates a roadblock that ties up the team bus on the way to the game. One of the players, in a case of mistaken identity, is questioned by police on the way to the game until it’s too late to suit up.
