Today. Marquette University Law school released a poll. Some say who cares, or the 2016 election showed that polls are inaccurate. I have followed the Marquette Poll since 2010, and I can say that within the 3-point margin of error, it is incredibly close every single time. Here are just some examples.
In 2018, Tammy Baldwin led Leah Vukmir 54-43. If you include learners, these are people who lean towards a political party but don't support 100% of their ideas. The result was 55-44 in the general election. Charles Franklin was just one number off. The same with the Governor's race. Walker and Evers was a virtual tossup. Charles Franklin said it was anyone's guess who the victor was. The number he came up with was 47-47 with learners. Tony Evers's victory was 49-48. Again, his numbers were just one digit off.
His poll was on the U.S. Supreme court. This is how Wisconsinites feel about decisions it made so far. It covers a lot of issues. Instead of a generic number, I think it's essential to look at individual numbers to understand better where Wisconsin citizens stand on issues.
It is safe to say that Wisconsinites don't like the Supreme Court unless you are a Republican. Even among Independents, the court is not favored by a wide margin. They think the court is more motivated by politics than by the law. These are the same Independents that gave Donald Trump the victory in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020. Digging deeper into Roe
I noticed some quite exciting trends.
Abortion
57% of men oppose the decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, and everyone in the age group 18-44 strongly disagrees with the decision. 69% of Independents oppose the decision. This mirrors other polls that think the Republican Party is too extreme regarding abortion rights. Most of Wisconsin is pro-choice.
Guns
Guns are a bit more tricky because they only poll on the rule of carrying a firearm outside your home—nothing on Red Flag Laws, Background Checks, or any ban on a specific type of rifle. I want more detail before I get into that. There is a difference between concealing and carrying and having access to an AR-15 rifle or comprehensive background checks.
Marriage Equality
For the most part, it is strongly favored. Unless you are a Republican, I mean, it is 2022. The only interesting note is for Independents who lean towards favoring it. The other interesting note is that for younger demographics, it is strongly favored by large margins.
Work Place Protections for LGBTQ
Is this an actual question? A majority of Wisconsinites favor workplace protections for LGBTQ. Even a few Republicans think we should have workplace protections for everyone. I didn't find any anomalies or exciting facts.
Conclusion
For the most part, Wisconsin is still a very progressive state. Despite having one Republican Governor for almost two decades and a very conservative Governor for practically a decade. We also have one of the most progressive Senators since fighting bob and Bernie won our state in the primary. Even the independents who decide most elections have a progressive mindset on social issues. The electorate for a Progressive takeover is there. We just got to GOTV and get YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED. THEY ARE MORE PROGRESSIVE THAN THE OLDER GENERATION WILL EVER BE.
