RC cola and a moon pie

53 years ago today we landed on another world.

1969-07-20 Apollo 11 lunar module carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin lands on the surface of the Moon; Aldrin and Armstrong walk on the moon seven hours later; Michael Collins remains in orbit in the lunar module.

My parents got me out of bed to watch it. It seemed like the future Star Trek promised us was imminent.

It didn’t quite work out that way. It’s looking more like the last scene in Planet of the Apes.
