An Update on Hector and Creampuff. Also, a Hearty Thank You [1]

Hector in the exam room

Some of you may remember a diary I wrote last month begging for funds for my kitties Hector and Creampuffs’ veterinary care. I’m disabled, see, and already in too much debt to possibly pay for many further costs. You deserve to know the results of their veterinary exams.

My vet’s hospital is a 45 minute drive from my house. That’s when traffic is good. With the recent cost of gas I wanted to bring both Hector and Creampuff up there at once. The soonest the hospital could get them in together was last Thursday afternoon. That’s why this diary took so long post.

First for Creampuff: I was right about her substantial weight loss. She did go from twelve pounds down to about nine. However, her bloodwork said her liver, kidneys and such were okay. This tells me her problems are probably behavioral. Admittedly, she has been spending most of her mealtimes trying to get into Hector’s prescription food rather than eating her own. Since I’ve been addicted to psychotherapy off and on since the mid 80’s I can probably handle any behavioral quirks myself.

Now for Hector, the one with chronic renal failure: his bloodwork came back with his creatinin and BUN levels a bit worse than on his previous visit, but I knew that would be so. The good news is they weren’t that much worse. For that I am grateful. His prescription low protein, low phosphorus diet is doing its job. To me, it is every bit worth the cost. It looks like the little guy is going to be with me for quite a while longer. Hector is already 16 years old. That’s not bad for a cat with incurable CRF.
