Something really awful is going on for Schiff to speak publicly has he has recently.
Let me begin with Committee member Adam Schiff’s recent statement: "If the (Justice) department were now to take the position that you can't investigate or indict a former president, then a president becomes above the law. That's a very dangerous idea that the Founders would have never subscribed to." He went on to say it’s “far more dangerous thing to our Constitution than following the evidence wherever it leads, including when it leads to a former president."
Is some sort of deal in the works?
Of course, I have no idea what’s transpiring behind closed doors in the Democratic leadership or in the White House, but it’s not brain surgery to suspect there are significant voices both for and against prosecuting the January 6th plotters and its leader, Donald J. Trump. And they are at present battling to out. Perhaps in relation to some sort of deal that’s on the table.
It’s simply a line of B.S. that the Justice Department will make such a decision completely on its own. And the long delay in taking any action to date despite overwhelming evidence speaks for itself and has emboldened the culprits. Every day that passes with no actions strengthens the plotters and weakens the Republic as the they prepare to savage the mid-terms result if they should lose.
Something is Rotten in Denmark
Schiff’s public comments are a tip off, to quote Shakespeare, that “Something is rotten in Demark . . . I mean Washington.” If he had any confidence that something was in the works, he would have never gone public with a statement like he made.
Liz Cheney is one of two Republicans on the Committee.
I’d love to be proven wrong. I wonder if the leadership has considered the degree of demoralization and anger that will be forthcoming if no one is indicted. And if a January 6th Committe that risked political life and limb is left out in the cold.
I’ve heard all the arguments behind why there has been a delay in prosecutions. But judging how poorly this administration has been reading the T leaves on a number of important issues lately, including news that Biden still thinks he can make deals with McConnell, I’ve lost confidence based on the long inaction by the Justice Department. I’ll be glad to eat crow if tomorrow the JD starts handing down indictments.
A Deal with the Devil?
What issues could be holding back the indictment, I’ve asked myself? One hopes some sort of weak-kneed deal has not been made with the devil, aka McConnell, or with that other Devil, DJT. But I must confess, it’s starting to look like some deal is being discussed. I can think of no deal that the plotters could be trusted to honor and making one would be a big mistake that doesn’t involved jail time and expulsion from the Congress for at least some of them.
But if Adam Schiff is worried that nothing is happening at the JD, so am I!
