Hard Truths Time [1]

There is a fundamental problem with our political discussions, our electoral choices, and even our personal choices.
We face two existential threats. One imminent, one increasingly likely.
Climate and nukes.
Climate approaches a scientific certainty and we can watch it playing out right now. Almost all of the modeling has been deficient in only one aspect — the rate of change. Nukes are moving in a similar direction and are, so far, increasingly likely. The issues are of course linked.
As bad as the Roe decision is, the EPA decision is worse. Not a welcome view but simple reality. And these issues are also linked.
We are caught between a political party intent on creating a very dark, highly dystopian society and another that acknowledges the problems but cannot or will not act decisively.
Younger voters see the dysfunction and avoidance very clearly and will turn away in droves. They have to. It's a survival issue.
IF there was somehow a huge blue wave that washed over our nation and the Democratic Party controlled all four branches of government (the media is a de facto branch) it would still take decades to ameliorate the damage we have allowed.
We do not have decades.
One of the biggest lessons of the Covid pandemic has been the before and during photos of the quarantine period. That lesson is being ignored entirely by most citizens.
To those who may say this is all overstated or doesn't apply to this or that issue or whatever all I can say is you are tragically and pathetically wrong.
The good news is the planet will survive and the biosphere will create equilibrium.
The bad news? Well, that's obvious.
We need to GOTV and support real Progressive candidates for sure.
What is coming is unavoidable but we can work to soften the impact.
Those who follow us today deserve better but that may be the best we can offer.
