While I was waiting for the animals to get used to my presence, a butterfly landed on a leaf nearby. I am unfamiliar with this species but I think the insect knew that and made sure I got a good look. Here’s a little music to go with the photos.
When the quiet excitement of the butterfly was over, the sharp chirps of a bird caught my attention. I didn’t know until I got home what I had photographed. All birds giving warning signals sound alike to me. Could be my feeling guilty about interrupting their serenity that hinders my field id.
Only after seeing the film, did I recognize the species. I soon discovered there are few examples of female Hooded Warblers calling or singing. I hope you enjoy the few seconds of the alarm.
I will be at work while this diary is playing. I hope you all have a wonderful day and I’ll be back later to catch up. See you then.
I must round out this diary with the Bug of the Day. My sister-in-law took a photo and sent it to my wife for me to id. I am happy to announce her find here.
Here are two photos showing the larva and adult moth.
I figure our friend Marsanges (in Germany) will appreciate this lovely flier.
