Just dropping this off: Global Trends 2040. Great assessment of the near future by the DNI [1]

One of the things I never see here at Daily Kos is some good foundational documents to get situational awareness of the “big picture.” To help with that I’m dropping this Director of National Intel (DNI) product, “Global Trends 2040: A More Contested World.” Here’s s link the DNI’s intro page where you can get to the actual PDF: Page LInk . If going to the DNI directly makes you nervous, there are probably other ways to get this.

Whether you trust the DNI or US Intel peeps at all, this is a very good assessment on where major trends MIGHT affect different sectors of society. Plus we paid for this. In another words, I think they do a great job picking the major game pieces of the current and near future, and showing how they might relate and interact as the future pushes them around. As a bit of a warning — the DNI does not paint an entirely rosy picture — some of the forces buffering us now will only get stronger and some institutions and coping mechanisms might falter or collapse.

I think it’s worth your time to at least read the exec summary to see if it’s something you could benefit from.

As a side note, Daily Kos could curate a library of docs likes this with some good search handles and well written intro. A couple of other things I plan to drop off are “The Kremlin’s Playbook” and “JP3-24 Counterinsurgency .” If you want a GREAT assessment on how Russia attacks democracies read the Playbook (but don’t think about 2016 and Trump when you do….). If you want a great “military” way to understand and defeat an insurgency JP3-24 is very good. Fair warning — if you read JP3-24 and start to “slot in” what the 1% and the right is doing it’s apparent they might have studied this too (at least IMHO).

I’m not fully qualified or an expert in anything, but I try to read and absorb all the strategic level info I can.
