Facing the "truth"...
I was going to write about assault rifles being available anywhere but the battlefield, but it doesn't matter.
Because even after it becomes "impossible" to buy one (it's illegal! The 2nd Admendment is finally properly parsed), you can just print one. Bullets ...? Print them, too. Gun powder? A student studying chemistry can take what's already in your garage and under your kitchen sink and make a reasonable faximile. Metal detectors? The guns will be plastic.
I was going to write about the insurrection and the threat to our democracy (from both smash-face thugs and dark money thugs), but it doesn't matter.
Because quite a few Republican elected officials are declining to participate in observing their Constitutional oath to office, opting instead to let slip the dogs of war. Sovereign Citizens™ (i.e., dogs of war) reject the very premise of democracy ... what's in it for them?
I was going to write about the "New! Improved!" Supreme Court, but it doesn't matter.
Because Mitch McConnell has crafted an engineered product, featuring not just "annoying" conservatism, but visceral cruelty. Women are denied their unalienable rights, urban populations can now enjoy "concealed carry" laws, EPA eviseration and coming soon ... Independent State Legislature Theory vs. actual citizens voting.
But I'm sorry, I'm being hysterical (I hate when I do that ...).
These problems are actually addressable - painfully, doggedly, eventually, through protests, voting, legal proceedings, legislation ...
Our problem is monsters from the Id.
If the video clip is too cryptic, the premise is a very advanced civilization created a technology so powerful that their very feelings could be given physical form.
But as advanced as they were, the Krells also evolved from animals. Their subconscious "rage" wouldn't be moderated by their consciences so they tore each other to pieces.
The internet could allow us to "channel our inner Krells".
"Communities" of haters worldwide, inciting and "educating" each other, instead of being the town loser.
The civic "we" being undermined by a braying "me".
Trust in public health agencies giving life-saving guidance being replaced with "do your own research".
Churchhill (allegedly) said "a lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on".
Now the lie is traveling at the speed of light.
