Reflections upon nesting.

Months ago, I tore the beautifully formed nest from atop a post supporting the deck’s roof. The weightlessness of the whole thing only let it float like a dead leaf on pond of verdant laurel. I came face-to-face today as I was trimming the hedges.

Was I too harsh and self-centered to turn asunder the hard work of the mating pair? Was I seeking a lower workload of having no nest versus allowing life to grow? Or…

Was the real reason I removed the nest because setting the mating pair of birds for likely failure was not in either of our best interests? The dangers of the nest, where the birds had originally attempted building it was killing their reproductive opportunities away for the season.

By removing that nest, the incentive was to move to a more adequate area less likely to be molested by domestic creatures living near the house. Elsewhere, they had at least a better than average shot at raising a new brood. Ironically, destroying the nest becomes a foundation to build, with a greater chance of success later.

The choice really is simple. Here is to helping others fall into the good. It may take removing a nest.
