Spend your day fretting and posting about the outrageous assault on our Democracy? Get your catharsis on with Facebook or Twitter or WaPo or DKos? Wring your hands bloody? Or did you channel that old saw of self-oppression and abject failure that says when they go low, we go high?
The stupid runs deep within us it seems. But, they are the uneducated idiots, right? Depends on what you’re talking about when you use the word uneducated. It would be nice if we just learned to co-ordinate our email and fundraising campaigns. But we can’t even do that.
We pay people to irritate the shit out of anyone that donates a dollar to any campaign for anything. I have 138 emails in my junk folder screaming: the end is near we will all end up subjugated by fascists and authoritarians insulted and depressed if the fundraising goals for this quarter are not met.
Isn’t that the best way to react, non-violently as suggested by our President, to the fact that if a 12 year old girl can get stalked for years by a sick white — yes, I said sick white - guy, is raped and forced to have his child we should vote in November? Ask for money? Tell them you are as angry as any hornet and ready to be a leader if they elect you in November?
Back in the day, we had a way we dealt with things like this. Ever see any of The Godfather movies? You raped a child in the neighborhood, you were dead. Even if you made it to prison, you were dead. But we keep obsessing about taking guns away from people. Doing things the right way while women die from ectopic pregnancies. How many should we let die?
Are we sure that if every Democrat — especially BIPOC ones — buy guns and train how to use them, that that wouldn’t actually decrease gun violence? Or do we think that people are so stupid and in need of mental health services that they will just use guns to communicate in a violent manner, anyway?
If that’s true how come so many Republicans own guns? How come they believe they need guns to protect themselves? And from what? Seems as if all those red states with guns have lots of Republicans killing each other. Do we all believe we are no better than Republicans? That Republicans are a different life form (don‘t push me on this)? The problem is that we do. They understand that.
So, what would happen if Democrats just said we’re all buying guns? Would that change what the other side did to prevent us from having power? Would it stop them from killing each other. Or us? Would it decrease rapes?
No, it clearly would not change what the other side did to prevent us from having power? They would just want more. Why do we keep kidding ourselves they care about our rights, other people and our country?
Our problem is we don’t now how to pull off big public messaging theater. We don’t know how to talk shit. The kind that makes them sweat in a confused state. We think we are too well educated and intellectually and ethically advanced for that.
Or, that our message is so righteous all it takes is for us to get one of them to listen and they will be purged of all fear, ignorance, jealousy, violence and sadism that human beings have expressed and acted on for tens of thousands of years.
If Republicans weren’t 24/7 doing their wonk about controlling everything we do, and everything they do, what would they do? Would anyone ever talk to them at all? We need to be wonks like that.
We need to be relentless in reinforcing amongst our own why it’s important to vote and to spend at least 5 minutes a day not hanging out on social media expressing ourselves and getting our catharsis on. We need to do the obsessive, John Lewis focused, ain’t nobody turning us around about what we want by putting the work in.
We need to let people know they are part of our tribe. We hear them. We respect them. And if we have to take less so we get more people in, we will. The problem is that we always demand focused, individual, specific attention on our parochial needs.
They thrive on being part of a pack, a tribe, a cult. The first thing we do is to blame some faction of our party. The moderates caused this. The progressive caused this. Bernie supporters. This happened because we didn’t pay enough attention to Black women. White men did this to us.
They hunt down their kill, waiting years if necessary, staying in line, inventorying their ammo then together go in for the kill. It will get divided up equally. And, if not, they will have affirmed and augmented their position as a member of the tribe.
How do we not recognize that that’s more than enough for some people to live on? Because we cdon’t, we don’t allow that it’s a potent weapon. And we don’t use it.
Until we realize that you never talk about outside the family, their extremely well funded mafia will continue to dominate and oppress us. Just in case you haven’t noticed the families are already warring in this country. Actually, it’s like the Crusades.
And we’re still arguing about who is actually in our family. Or who deserves to be. And who let us down. And how it all effects us. To each other.
We need to stop being outraged. And start outraging them. Every day. By any means necessary. Next time you want to get something off your chest, wrangle up 12 of you and go to some city square or anywhere and talk to people who don’t know how outraged you are. Baptize them into the family.
