I feel like i have had too long covid of the mind for 10 years now.

As a microbiologist, medicinal chemist and disease geek, I should have enjoyed the pandemic!

I have poor lungs so i was pretty careful during 2020. The masking and distancing wasn't too bad but i got SO sick of my little pod…

I am a vaccine believer so Ive been pretty optimistic since i got it early 2021.

The Ba variant waves have worn that down a little tempered by the fact that the vid has gone from being our #1 health problem to fighting for fifth place after tobacco cancer heart attacks and alcohol.

Interestingly, based on its infection rate and SAfrican experience, epidemiologists were able to predict omicron Ba.2's peak date early on, almost to the day.

Some fear a wave of long covid will ruin our economy, but Id like to point out here that anything thats bad enough to kill x% will cause long term problems for 3 or 4 times that many. This is nothing new.

What would crush my remaining optimism is a variant that was not only contagious, not only good at infection of the vaccinated, but also causing more mortality and morbidity among them. I hope it doesn't come to that.
