With the usual modifications of course. Plus you could add a motor for all-wheel drive.
President Biden has expressed his desire to see the U.S. move more quickly to Electric Vehicles aka EVs. One of the most prominent ways he could do that is the White House fleet.
25 January 2021 Biden vows to replace U.S. government fleet with electric vehicles WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Joe Biden on Monday vowed to replace the U.S. government’s fleet of roughly 650,000 vehicles with electric models as the new administration shifts its focus toward clean-energy.
It doesn’t take 18 months to build a car. GM/Cadillac could have already built out the White House fleet of cars. Yes there are modifications the U.S. Secret Service require for the President’s safety. And with EVs there are even more with the ability to do software updates to a rolling computer. No automatic direct over the air updates for the White House fleet, screened and filtered before uploads. (Actually the security features could be greatly enhanced, operating on secure DOD satellite systems.)
The latest stories that I could find were from December of 2021. And that one is still focusing on the macro scale of replacing the U.S. government's 650,000 vehicles (that’s not including the USPS which is another story that needs to be continually high-lighted).
19 December 2021 One Man Behind The White House Effort To Convert Federal Fleet To Electric Vehicles National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) fuel and vehicle regulations expert Ted Sears has been tasked with supporting the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) in efforts to convert the federal fleet to zero-emission vehicles. The appointment follows a January 2021 Biden Administration executive order that set a goal of achieving 100% acquisition of zero-emission federal fleet vehicles. (snip) Working through the U.S. Department of Energy, Sears is now coordinating next steps on a broad range of activities to support the administration’s lead-by-example transition to a 100% zero-emission vehicle fleet. The executive orders are also steering Sears to seek opportunities for state, Tribal, and local fleet vehicles.
All of that is fine, but it ignores the elephant in the room. The White House fleet. If you want the public to accept EVs as an everyday item and no big deal, start with what they see every time they see POTUS move. The White House fleet. All Cadillacs, Suburbans etc, And yesterday would have been soon enough.
I might also point out that we’re talking about all the vehicles in a presidential motorcade whether its 5, 8, 10 or 15 vehicles anywhere in the country or world. It’s past time.
