Roe is gone, women's rights are gone. Medical decisions should be a conversation between a woman and her doctor, not a woman and the government. What's going on here?

According to Republican politicians American women are a perishable commodity. I mean commodity in its fullest sense of the word here too. An object bearing value that is to be bought and sold. Just like bulls at an auction. Women are no more worthy than the output of their uterus’s. With the fall of Roe, we became second class citizens, one could even liken us to slaves. Slaves in the sense that white men are forcing their control on the unwilling. Women are slaves because of our gender, slaves because we are now forced to give birth. We have no say in our bodily functions as soon as an egg is fertilized within it. We become slaves to a small mass of cells in our own body that aren’t even a human being yet.

So why is it that people believe that that mass of cells have rights? Shouldn’t the rights of the woman carrying that mass of cells come first? Given she’s been living as a human being on the planet for some time before the mass of cells entered her life. Doesn’t make sense does it?

To put this into perspective let’s look at some scenarios here. If that mass of cells were to be moved outside of the uterus before 3 months, it would die. If embryo were moved outside the body before 3 months, it would die. If the fetus were moved outside the body before 8 months (without massive intervention), it would die. Even after 8 months, if the almost fully formed baby was moved outside of the body and given no outside help, it could die. If the woman died while carrying and with no intervention, they would both die.

The woman is already living, she doesn’t need any outside help or intervention to stay alive. Yet we put the signifier of “living” and “child” and “rights” onto a being that cannot survive without the mother.

In the 1800’s a fetus was not considered viable until the quickening, when a mother felt the baby move. Southern Baptist’s believed that a fetus was not a full human being until they were born unto the world and the umbilical cord severed, only then could it live separate from the mother and became a whole being.

Rights to life and rights as a human should not be applied to a fetus until it is separate from the mother and can live on its own. Yet politicians who believe their faith is the right faith and that the right to life should be conveyed to all things, take away a woman’s rights as soon as she’s got a mass of cells in her uterus. Who are they really supporting here? It’s certainly not the woman, who lives and breathes, but a mass of cells that may not even be born.

I held an imaginary conversation with Congress today, speaking to them about abortion rights and the rights of women. It began with a simple question, “everyone in this room who is a professional medical doctor, please put your hand up. Oh come on now don’t be shy, hands up. Huh, none of you are doctor’s. Interesting because what should be a conversation between a woman and her doctor about her medical condition and her choices shouldn’t be in your hands or the courts hands to decide. It’s a PRIVATE medical decision.”

So why isn’t abortion, which is a medical procedure, a private decision between a woman and her doctor? It should be. I can go out and get a boob job and no one questions me, but if I need to expel some unwanted cells from my uterus, that’s under the purview of the government? Something stinks here and it’s not just Republicans.
