The band, Rage Against The Machine

In a lighter note for the news this last while, I saw this tweet and had a laugh, so I thought I’d share:

x A soft-rock station in Vancouver has been playing "Killing In the Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine for hours on a loop.

Whenever someone calls in for a request, they deny it and replay the Rage song again. https://t.co/r2yhK0qTSi — Tracey Lindeman (@traceylindeman) June 29, 2022

That’s Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, BTW.

I gotta wonder if it’s being done as a form of protest at some of the bizarre crap that’s been going on, lately. Yeah, I know it’s not exactly hard-hitting news, but damn, you gotta admit it’s pretty funny, a normally soft-rock station playing something as crunchy as Rage Against The fucking Machine. 😆 Those guys are freakin’ awesome. Political as HELL. Great protest music, in my opinion.

With all the rights being rolled back, being threatened and talked about being threatened in the near future here in the U.S, this seems like an appropriate and interesting way to protest in a wide open fashion. The only beef I have with it, is the station isn’t giving a reason for why they’re doing it—possibly because of station ownership? So it looks like a weird publicity stunt. But, I’m still chuckling.

Reading further into the thread, it’s possible that the guys doing this are protesting some layoffs, as their parent company, Rogers Media, has laid off some workers and the folks there are apparently not too happy about it. If so, you GO, guys!

Folks call up the station asking for other songs and they say, “Sure, we’ll play it”, and then just go back to the Rage song, or folks call them up, ask for the Rage tune, and they say, “Yeah, we might have it around here, somewhere, let us dig it up—it’s in the stacks, someplace”, and they play it, yet again. They always have some response for whoever calls asking for the song.

The thread, by the way, is a lot of fun to read!
