Jeanne Hendricks is the DFL endorsed Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress running to defeat GOP U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer in Minnesota’s 6th District. Jeanne is a nurse anesthetist, mom, and community activist who makes decisions every day based on facts and science. She has spent the last 28 years raising a family and providing health care as a nurse anesthetist to Minnesota’s senior citizens, workers, Black, Brown and Indigenous people, women, and children.
Jeanne is a Midwesterner born in Canton South Dakota on August 3rd, 1957. Her mother, Joyce Messerli, was a secretary in a law office and her father, Lloyd Messerli, was a high school science teacher and later became an investment broker.
Her parents instilled in Jeanne a strong work ethic, the importance of participation in church and school activities, service to the community, and being kind and truthful to family and friends.
She attended Augustana University in Sioux Falls and in 1979 received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Nursing Major. In 1993, Jeanne graduated from Winona State University earning a Master of Science Degree in Nurse Anesthesia. At Winona State University, Jeanne was a student class representative on the graduate school’s governing board.
Jeanne is currently a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and has worked in anesthesia for the last 28 years, delivering anesthesia in the operating room for adults and children. During her career, Jeanne built coalitions and acted as the spokesperson to represent her co-workers when discussing the areas of benefits, salary, credentialing requirements, and practice issues with administration.
On her website, Jeanne outlines EXACTLY why she is running for U.S. Congress:
“My name is Jeanne Hendricks. I’m a Nurse Anesthetist, Mom, and a Democrat for U.S. Congress in Minnesota’s 6th. I’m running to defeat NRCC Chair, GOP U.S. Rep., and Trump loyalist Tom Emmer.
The Republican Leadership in Washington, DC continues to lie to Americans, including GOP U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer, who stated that the January 6th insurrection was just “legitimate political discourse.” Really?!
As a Nurse, I make decisions for my patients based on facts and science. Our Democracy must be treated the same.
I believe the number one issue in 2022 is defending our Democracy. We need people to stand up, volunteer, register to vote, and get involved at all levels to defend our Democracy. Together, we will protect it against all who wish to do it harm.
I’ll fight for Minnesotan family values, quality health care, jobs that pay a living wage and affordable homes for every Minnesotan in an environment with clean air and water in the land of 10,000 lakes.
Our workers deserve a living wage. I will partner with Labor Unions, local small businesses, and community leaders to make this a reality.
Families need to have affordable health care and that is why we must fix the Affordable Care Act and lower prescription drug prices.
Climate change is real and protecting our environment must be a priority.
I will fight to codify Roe v. Wade into law ensuring that a woman’s right to make healthcare decisions about her own body is upheld no matter what. If the Supreme Court thinks that they can turn the clocks back without a fight, they are sorely mistaken.
I’m a Minnesotan through and through. My parents taught me the values of hard work, honesty, and doing the right thing. Now more than ever we need these same Minnesotan values in the U.S. Congress.
