Date: 2022-03

The suspension from this Tuesday of public charter flights between any terminal area of the United States and Cuba, with the exception of the José Martí International Airport, is part of the intensification of the blockade on the island.

The measure that affects nine Cuban international airfields swells the list of 190 sanctions applied since 2017 by the Washington Government against the Greater Antilles, Granma newspaper published on Tuesday.

A strategy to try to destroy the Cuban Revolution

It is part of the White House pressure strategy towards the island along with the consular closure of the US embassy in Havana, the suspension of cruise trips and the persecution against tanker ships that transport oil to Cuba.

The newspaper warns that the implementation of this measure by the government of Donald Trump aims to win the votes of the most reactionary sectors of Cuban emigration in the United States, especially the state of Florida, in the November presidential elections. He emphasizes that this time, however, the reactions against the sanction have not been expected in that country, where the Cuban residents since the end of 2019 were affected by the suspension of regular direct flights to the interior of Cuba.

The tourism news site, Reportur, said that reducing travel to Cuba will raise the price of tickets to the island, an effect that Cuban families will suffer on both sides of the Florida Strait.

The Policy against Cuba has not been successful

The president of the Cuba Educational Travel organization, Collin Laverty, published on his Twitter account that despite the decades spent trying to divide the Cuban people by the electoral results in South Florida, the results of that policy have been ‘zero’.

“We understand that the politicians who make this measure have probably never been to Cuba, but even they should be able to see that the vast majority of Cubans do not live in Havana,” said the president of the Engage Cuba coalition, James Williams.

More than 600,000 Americans traveled to Cuba in 2017 and 2018, in addition to half a million Cuban-Americans, a figure that in 2019 reached 552,816, which shows the strengthening of the island’s ties with its nationals abroad, he acknowledged. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.
