Sixty years ago, United States President John F. Kennedy signed proclamation 3447, which decreed a North American “embargo” (blockade) of Cuba, already initiated without becoming official, since the very triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
The justification: our relations with the socialist countries, which supposedly undermined “the principles of the inter-American system” and against “US and hemispheric security.”
The pronouncements and measures of Fidel Castro in favor of the people, the independence and the sovereignty of Cuba, annoyed the status that the Yankee government imposed on all of Latin America.
Other excuses were added later. That we were a satellite of the USSR, internationalist aid to Ethiopia, Angola and the National Liberation Movements, links with drug trafficking and international terrorism.
They came to the unusual: Cuba trafficker of people and exploiter of slaves by sending its doctors to save lives to the countries of the world that need it. Nothing, falsehood and opportunism to impose their policies.
It was not possible then to allow any country in his backyard to rebel in such a way.
