Cuba condemns US blockade on payments for the export of vaccines against COVID-19 – Canal Caribe
[]
Date: 2022-02
The blockade that the United States applies against Cuba prevents the nation from receiving income from the export of vaccines against COVID-19.
This was announced, in statements to the Granma newspaper, by the president of the Business Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba, Dr. Eduardo Martínez. The director of Biocubafarma commented that in the last quarter of 2021, Cuba exported anti-Covid-19 vaccines and other nationally produced biopharmaceutical products to several countries.
However, due to the financial persecution unleashed by Washington, including the refusal of several banks to work with the Greater Antilles, millions of receivables have accumulated.
Dr. Eduardo Martínez also mentioned the delays in payment commitments to suppliers of raw materials, another consequence of the economic siege, a situation that has caused suppliers to decline the supply of materials to Cuba on multiple occasions.
The president of BioCubaFarma expressed that, together with the Ministry of Public Health, plans and measures are being prepared to reverse the situation of medicines in the country, which should improve by June of this year.
