China urges US to lift sanctions against Cuba – Canal Caribe

Date: 2022-02

China today urged the United States to immediately and completely lift its unilateral sanctions against Cuba, stop meddling in internal affairs and handle mutual ties in accordance with international standards.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Wenbin, deplored and described as “coercive diplomacy” the punishment measures that Washington recently imposed on institutions and officials on the island.

Wang recalled that the United Nations General Assembly for 29 consecutive years approved with a resounding majority resolutions that demand the end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

“We firmly support the efforts of the Cuban government and its people in their just struggle to defend national sovereignty, oppose the interference of the powers and explore the path of development according to their national conditions,” added the spokesman.

Wang spoke this way when commenting on the White House’s decision to apply visa restrictions to eight officials from the Antillean island.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said yesterday that this measure affects those “involved in attempts to silence the voices of the Cuban people” after the events of July 11, although he did not specify who the sanctioned are.

Cuba rejected the action and considered it irrelevant from a practical point of view, although it has political implications, since it is part of the hostility promoted from the White House.
