Diaz Canel has urged to apply science in terms of producing food – Canal Caribe

President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged the application of Cuba’s scientific capabilities to boost food production, a prioritized program on the island in the face of the effects of the United States blockade.

Food production, agriculture, as a primary sector, has to develop. It is a pending task that we must resolve, despite the low availability of resources and the siege of the US government, he pointed out.

In a meeting held the day before with state and business authorities, scientists and experts to evaluate the implementation of the Government Management System based on Science and Innovation in agriculture, the president stressed the need to promote the agricultural sector.

According to the website of the Presidency, at the meeting the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Idael Pérez identified, among the main challenges, those related to human potential, the productive sector, knowledge, financing and territorial development.

One of the greatest challenges, explained the official, is to guarantee the permanence of the labor force (worker, technical and professional), first of all, direct to the field, in addition to making it grow in number and improve its training.

He also highlighted the need to specify the principle of greater production with less expenses through the use of science and innovation.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero affirmed that in order to solve the problems, a change in the mentality of the leaders is essential.A single cadre that resists changes is a wall for progress, despite the will of the collectives and the Government, he explained.

For her part, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman insisted, among other issues, on the development of local food systems as the fundamental link for applying science and innovation.

In the conclusions of the meeting, Díaz-Canel directed the summoning of scientists, promoting their participation in the construction and implementation of their projects.
