37th Edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival – Canal Caribe
[]
Date: 2022-01
The organizers of the International Jazz Plaza Festival will announce today the news of its 37th edition, to be held in this capital from January 18th to 23rd to the approval of lovers of the genre.
As every year, the event sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music, the National Center for Popular Music and the Ministry of Culture will fill Havana with an air of jazz thanks to the list of Cuban and foreign artists who take on a varied program.
At the same time, the usual Leonardo Acosta in memoriam International Jazz Colloquium will open the theoretical sessions to pay well-deserved tribute to groups, musicians, specialists and fundamental institutions of Cuban culture.
On this occasion, the contest is dedicated to the Cuban Modern Music Orchestra on the 55th anniversary of its foundation; to the centenary of the birth of the great composer César Portillo de la Luz and to the 95 years of the first Cuban woman piano, the exceptional Numidia Vaillant.
Although last year the musical event did not admit face-to-face recitals due to the impact of Covid-19 in the country, it happened online through the Streaming Cuba chain and other digital platforms.
The International Jazz Plaza Festival is one of the most relevant music events in Cuba and since its creation in 1980, several of the most prominent exponents of the genre have appeared on the scene worldwide, from the American trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie to the French composer Michel Legrand.
