The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted the advances in vaccination against Covid-19 in the country, especially in the incorporation of minors into the immunization campaign.

In his Twitter account, the dignitary pointed out that children and adolescents who suffered from Covid-19 will be able to receive their dose of the Sovereign Plus vaccine, one of those developed by scientists from the Caribbean nation to successfully combat that disease.

In this regard, he recalled that the day before the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed) of Cuba approved the emergency use of Soberana Plus for the pediatric population over two years convalescing from Covid-19.

In this way, the indication of the drug produced by the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV) is expanded in this population segment with two months or more of hospital or home medical discharge, according to Cecmed in a press release.

The most recent official data reveal that nine million 287 thousand 955 people in Cuba (83 percent) completed the anti-Covid-19 vaccination scheme with the three national immunogens approved so far by Cecmed (Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus).

The Caribbean nation ranks first in Latin America and third in the world in immunization against Covid-19, only surpassed globally by the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, according to the Our World in Data digital site.

At the same time, in another tweet, Díaz-Canel pointed out that “Cuban men and women, the children who are going to school vaccinated, when they grow up, when they form their families, will tell one of the greatest feats that this people did. And then he stressed that BioCubaFarma, “was on the front line of combat.” This business group of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries of Cuba produces medicines, equipment, high-tech services and also food with advanced technology for the improvement of human health.
