Authorized use of Cuban vaccine Abdala in Mexico – Canal Caribe

[]

Date: 2021-12

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), of Mexico, announced on its Twitter account that it authorized, for emergency use against covid-19, the Cuban vaccine Abdala.

According to the Cofepris statement, the specialized personnel carried out the technical-scientific review that certified that the biological complies with the necessary quality, safety and efficacy requirements.

The approvals of this Commission are recognized by other countries in the region, therefore the approved vaccines can be used in other nations.

Likewise, as Cofepris is a member of the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for the Registration of Pharmaceutical Products for Human Use, all decisions of this authority are made based on the technical-scientific evidence presented.

Last October, the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, commented on the existence of an agreement to purchase vaccines developed in Cuba, recalled the newspaper La Jornada.
