2nd Experience 2 of the Havana Biennial began – Canal Caribe
[]
Date: 2021-12
2nd Experience 2 of the Havana Biennial officially begins today and will run until March 24, 2022, with Cuban art occupying a leading place in the program of activities.
The entire city will be a participant in this stage, entitled “La Habana de la Bienal”, through exhibitions and presentations, to which are added various special projects and collaborative workshops, including from other cities in the country.
This 2nd Experience follows “Preamble”, the first of them, which was characterized by Norma Rodríguez Derivet, president of the National Council of Plastic Arts (CNAP), as a success that provided excellent results.
Cuban Association of the United Nations will host the Havana Biennial. For his part, the director of the Biennial, Nelson Ramírez de Arellano, said that Preamble allowed to demonstrate that the Biennial does exist, made with few resources, but with great dignity.
Following the good path set by its predecessor, Havana brings a series of proposals framed in the transversal axis that gives meaning to this XIV edition of the contemporary art event. Privileging the presence of national artists adds to the sustainability strategies that the Biennial has drawn up as part of its main fabric and is part of that transversal axis, which is the need to be increasingly aware of the negative impact of the human being. over the planet.
The extensive program of exhibitions and actions is jointly coordinated by the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center and the Visual Arts Development Center (CDAV), and for this stage a call was launched that invited Cuban artists to participate.
Among the activities to be highlighted is the collective exhibition Disounds, which will open on December 9 at the CADV.
The popular Behind the Wall project will return on December 12, with the opening of its first stage, which will feature the installation of works by Cuban artists based in various provinces of the country.
You can also enjoy Manifiesto, a project of sculptures by the artist Alexis Leyva (Kcho), which will be inaugurated today, December 6, on 5th Avenue, to occupy from 4th to 94th streets.
Other actions will be carried out throughout the months covered by this 2nd Experience, until “Return to the Future” begins on March 25, the stage that, upon completion on April 30, will put an end to this twenty-fourth edition of the Biennial from Havana.
