VIMariel: First 100% Vietnamese concessionaire in ZEDM

The construction of the ViMariel Industrial Park, the first concessionaire with 100 percent Vietnamese capital from the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), began this Wednesday in this logistics enclave, 45 kilometers from Havana.

According to ZEDM sources, the start of construction is one of the activities planned as part of the Session of the Cuba-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission to be held during this day.

The company ViMariel S.A., established between Cuba and Vietnam last July, is a subsidiary of the Vietnamese corporation Corporación Viglacera S.A., a firm with extensive experience in the development and operation of industrial parks in that Asian country.

Likewise, the entity will be able to project, invest, build, manage and exploit the infrastructure and an Industrial Park in an area of ​​approximately 157 hectares located in Sector A of the ZEDM.

Thanks to the authorization granted, ViMariel S.A, will undertake an investment program that will multiply the development of the infrastructure of said enclave and attract foreign direct investment, reads the information available on the website of the ZEDM.

According to statements made previously by the general director of the Zone office, Ana Teresa Igarza, the company plans to install businesses linked to the buildings, from its own entities or other associated companies.

In principle, he explained, this industry will be focused on construction materials, heavy industry, packaging and packaging, manufactures based on the use of personal and household cleaning, biopharmaceutical industry, as well as logistics activity.

The concession, established for a term of 50 years, also provides for attracting investors to Cuba mainly related to the production of flat glass and glass blocks, Igarza said.The ZEDM, created in 2013, was founded with the objective of promoting sustainable economic development through the attraction of foreign investment, technological innovation and industrial concentration, with a view to increasing exports, effectively replacing imports and generating new sources of employment.
