The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, arrived in Cuba on Thursday for a two-day official visit, during which he will hold talks with authorities of the Caribbean nation. Upon his arrival at the José Martí international airport in this capital, Sánchez was received by Vice Chancellor Rogelio Sierra. The Spanish leader was accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Industry, Josep Borrell and Reyes Maroto, respectively. On the island, Sanchez will fulfill a broad agenda, which includes a meeting with the host head of state, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the homage to the national hero, José Martí, and participation in the signing of agreements and a business forum, as well as a tour of the Historic Quarter of Old Havana.
Official biography of the Hon. Mr. Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain
He studied the baccalaureate at the Ramiro de Maeztu Institute in Madrid, where he was a player in the youth academy of the Estudiantes basketball club. In 1995 he graduated in Economics and Business Sciences from the Royal María Cristina University College, a center affiliated with the Complutense University of Madrid.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the European Union from the Free University of Brussels and in Advanced Studies in European Economic and Monetary Integration from the Ortega y Gasset University Institute.
In 2012 he received his doctorate in Economics from the Universidad Camilo José Cela, where he worked as a professor of Economics.
He worked as an advisor in the European Parliament. He was a member of the cabinet of the High Representative of the United Nations in Bosnia Herzegovina.
In 1993 he joined the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), of which he is its General Secretary.
He served as Deputy in the Congress for the district of Madrid and Councilman in the City of Madrid. He was leader of the opposition and candidate for the Presidency of the Government between 2014 and 2016.
Since June 2018 he is President of the Government of Spain. Married and father of two daughters.
