Cuba is the first country that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive on his tour of Latin America, then follow Brazil and Suriname. The Russian Foreign Minister will make a two-day official visit to the island where it is planned to exchange extensively with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov will take advantage of the stay to assess the evolution of the agreements signed between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel last November. The positions of Moscow and Havana on the key issues of the global and regional agenda are similar. Russia has always backed the largest of the Antilles in the fight against the blockade imposed by the United States. Between Russians and Cubans there is a consolidated and long-standing friendship. Several generations in both countries grew up with deep ties and mutual admiration.
