Díaz-Canel evokes Melba Hernández and Haydée Santamaría

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez recalled on Tuesday two great women in our history, Melba Hernández and Haydee Santamaría. In his tweet account, the president recalled that on July 28, Melba was born 99 years ago and four decades ago, Haydée Santamaría or Yeyé physically ceased to exist as her usual companions knew her.

Vilma Espín, GREAT woman in our homeland history, remembers Haydée in this way. Exceptional Cubans, Moncadistas, sensitive heroines, Melba and Haydee were deeply Martian. History united them in the preparations for Granma, the Moncada epic and under the leadership of Fidel.

Both revolutionaries served prison in 1953 after the actions of the Moncada, of great importance in their lives, which helped to keep them always united by friendship and ideals. Life wanted Today’s date to eternalize them in the memory of the people.
