The cooperation between China and Cuba in biotechnology today shows another progress with the signing here of the investment project of the first joint park to investigate, develop, produce and market products obtained in the Caribbean state.
As confirmed by the Island’s ambassador here, Carlos Miguel Pereira, the Guangxi Fukang Medical Investment and Management Co Ltd and Fangchenggang Development Zone authorities signed the agreement on Monday.
A cooperative platform to provide better services in public health
That step followed a meeting last December of Marta Ayala, deputy general director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, with the mayor of the town of Fangchenggang, Ban Zhongbo, and other local leaders.
The project includes the construction of a cooperative platform to provide better services in public health and also of a joint venture that will develop almost a dozen medicines of the West Indian nation to treat heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases, different types of cancer and hepatitis B chronic, among others.
It emerged as a result of a recent agreement between the Biocubafarma group and the Guangxi Fukang Medical Investment and Management Co Ltd. “The pilot area of Fangchenggang, which is interconnected with the countries of Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) by land and sea, offers us good opportunities and confirms that bilateral cooperation in biotechnology has a solid foundation,” he said. Ayala then. Ban emphasized the importance of Cuba’s participation with its experts and drugs of proven efficiency, quality and international recognition.
Experimental industrial development pole
The Fangchenggang area – located in the southern autonomous region of Zhuang of Guangxi – is called to become an experimental industrial hub in the development and production of medicines for China and Asean.
This town last May hosted an international forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on innovation and medical collaboration, where Cuba participated and shared experiences on issues such as the quality of health benefits, academic training and scientific research.
The Antillean country was represented by Yamira Palacios, head of the Medical Services Marketer’s Office here, and in leading collateral conversations of Zhuang from Guangxi, they expressed their willingness to hire Cuban specialists, train some on the Caribbean island and apply biotechnological products.
The official then confirmed to Prensa Latina that she discussed with her interlocutors how to expand cooperation in oncology in cases such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the application of the lung cancer vaccine, with a high incidence in the Chinese population. Cuba successfully developed the first therapeutic vaccine in the history of lung cancer and has a growing worldwide acceptance.
