Cuba confirms 167 cases of Covid-19 and one deceased

The website of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reports that at the close of yesterday, December 26, 3,111 patients were admitted for clinical epidemiological surveillance, 260 suspects, 780 under surveillance and 1,350 confirmed.

For COVID-19, 13,912 samples were studied, resulting in 167 positive samples. The country accumulates one million 420 thousand 514 samples carried out and 11 thousand 205 positive (0.79%). Of the total cases (167): 70 were contacts of confirmed cases, 89 with a source of infection abroad, and eight without a specified source of infection.

Of the 167 cases diagnosed, 86 were female and 81 male. 74.3% (124) of the 167 positive cases were asymptomatic, accumulating a total of 7,326, which represents 65.4% of those confirmed to date. The 167 diagnosed cases belong to the age groups: those under 20 years of age 21 for 12.6%; from 20 to 39 years 60 for 35.9%; from 40 to 59 years 69 for 41.3%, 60 and over 17 for 10.2%.

The 68-year-old Cuban citizen, resident in Havana, passed away. Personal Pathological Background: Arterial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Terminal Chronic Renal Insufficiency. She was referred to the Salvador Allende Hospital as she was a confirmed case contact and presented respiratory symptoms. PCR is performed which was positive.

Later, she was transferred to the Luis Díaz Soto Hospital to proceed with hemodialysis because she was a patient with Chronic Renal Insufficiency. Later, she began with respiratory distress, for which she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, she was intubated and ventilated in a controlled mode, presenting metabolic acidemia and fluid and electrolyte disorders. During the night, he presented cardiac arrest in asystole, cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were performed but were not effective. Necropsy was performed and anatomical pieces were sent for postmortem PCR, with positive results.
