Cuba and the United Arab Emirates revitalize bilateral ties

The inauguration of the Cuban Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) opens a new stage in bilateral relations and foresees successes and prosperity for both nations, a diplomatic authority of the Caribbean country said on Thursday.

The opening ceremony of the building hosted by the Cuban diplomatic legation was chaired by the Emirati Minister of State, Zaki Awnar Nusseibeh; and the director of North Africa and the Middle East of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Héctor Igarza.

Igarza expressed his gratitude to the government and the Foreign Ministry, as well as to all those who, in one way or another, “contributed to the Cuban flag flying for the first time in the new Cuban diplomatic headquarters in this beautiful and friendly country.”

Also, the high-ranking official confirmed the interest and willingness to continue working for the strengthening of what he called excellent existing bilateral relations, and predicted “a successful future and prosperity for both countries.”

The ceremony was also attended by the head of the Cuban mission here, Jorge León; and the ambassador of this Arab state in Havana, Bader Almatrosshi, along with other local government and chancellery authorities.

Members of the accredited diplomatic corps, Cuban residents, personalities, businessmen and representatives of civil society were also at the ceremony that began with the unveiling of the embassy’s plaque and the deployment of the Cuban pavilion.

After the notes of the national anthems of Cuba and the UAE were sung, and the ribbon cut that officially opened the embassy, ​​there was a meeting between the attendees who showed signs of recognition and wishes for success.

The occasion was favorable to hold the first meeting with a representation of more than 40 resident Cuban citizens who were offered an update on the situation in their homeland.

In particular, they were given details of the efforts being made to reconstruct the damage caused by the tornado of January 27 in Havana and the preparations for the constitutional referendum on February 24.

For his part, the head of mission and charge of business of Cuba in Abu Dhabi, Jorge Leon, defined this day as a “historic day for the existing friendly relationship” between the two states, and evoked the context in which that took place. ceremony.

León praised the recent 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 166th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, José Martí, in whose work – he said – there are beautiful reflections on love and friendship, valid on a date like this Thursday, 14 February

He also said that he was a bearer of a message from Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to the Emirati president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as an expression of goodwill and a firm determination to advance in the strengthening of ties.
