From the 5th to the 11th of August, the second day will take place in Havana, the second day Havana Titiritera: figures between cobblestones.The event convened by the La Proa Theatre group will have several venues in that historic center, to which the Cultural Center Bertolt Brecht and La Madriguera, reports the Cuban News Agency.
Arneldy Cejas, artistic director of the event, informed the press today that the program will comprise a total of 80 functions designed for children, which can be attended free of charge by the winners of academic, sports and art competitions, who will receive A special pass when presenting their award certificates at the headquarters of the prominent La Proa Theater group, reports the Cuban News Agency.
According to the actor and designer, the event, convened by the Havana Theater Center and the La Proa group, is held every two years with the aim of showing the latest puppet theater production in the capital, but also recognized groups from the rest of the country and other nations participate.
On this occasion, 15 shows from 12 Havana groups will take place, including Puerto Theater, Traveler Theater, El Arca, Polichinela de La Habana, Theater de la Villa, Open Space, Pálpito, La Proa and Paper Airplanes, the latter being a student project of the National Theater / Puppet School.
According to Arneldy Cejas, the day is open to the formation of alliances and intends to function as a platform for experimentation, hence the joint work with art schools and the practice space provided by the event to its students.
Groups from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic will also participate, in addition to the outstanding Alas Theater, from Pinar del Río; the Matanzas Papalote Theater and Theater of the Stations; Giver Theater, by Sancti Spíritus; and Los Guiñoles, from Guantánamo, Camagüey, and Cañabrava de Cienfuegos. The program will host functions such as La Proa Theater, El Arca and the El Arca Theater Alternative Room (3rd floor), Theater of the Order III, Aldaba Theater, the Museum of Colonial Art, the Patio of the Havana Theater Center and the Houses of Mexico, Africa, Guayasamín and Poetry, of the Office of the Historian.
It is also composed of workshops, conferences, exhibitions of plastic arts, presentations and the exhibition of theater publications, as well as shows designed to present in areas affected by the passage of the tornado last January, the usual Walk Titiritero with the project Routes and Andares, and a Puppet Master’s Cabaret for adults. The opening and closing galas will be held at the Martí Theater, in tribute to the five years after its reopening, on Monday, August 5 at 5:00 p.m. with the performance of Papalote Theater and Sunday 11, also at 5:00 p.m., with a special function for children of the National Ballet of Cuba, respectively.
