The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, arrived today at NY to participate in the UN General Assembly, where the governor will address for the first time to the highest level of the UN.

Together with the Cuban President the delegation is also compound by the Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez, the Foreign Affair Minister Rodrigo Malmierca; the Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo and the vice minister of Foreign Trade, Abelardo Moreno.

It is also compound by the General Director of the U.S of Chancellery, Carlos Fernández de Cossío; the permanent representative of Cuba at UN, Anayansi Rodríguez and the Cuban ambassador in the U.S, José Ramón Cabañas.

Miguel Díaz-Canel assumed the Presidency of the States and Ministries Council in April this year and his first trip as a governor was made to Venezuela in May.

Now he will participate for the first time in the high level section of the UN General Assembly in its 73rd session period.

The President travelled directly to the Permanent Mission of Cuba in this city in Manhattan and he was very eloquent when he affirmed: ¨We came to bring a message of peace.¨

He recognized that while arriving to this city ¨many memories come to his mind and are all the images when he was a child and later a grown up when Fidel was present in the UN and later Raúl. Thus, I think that here is a mixture of emotions and also thinking in the task we should accomplish in this assembly.¨

He adds, that he is coming to ¨denounce the burdensome policy of the blockade against Cuba, a policy that has already failed and will keep on failing and it is the longest embargo in the history of humankind which has condemned to generations born before and after the Cuban Revolution.¨
