The first half of the match, played at the Arena stadium of Fonte Nova, located in Salvador de Bahía, ended in a goalless draw. The Charrúas could not take advantage of several clear occasions.

The team, led by Óscar Tabárez, dominated clearly throughout the second half, but never managed to score.
