Saint Lucia Labor Party leader Philip Pierre won that country’s general election and thwarted outgoing Prime Minister Allen Chastanet’s efforts for re-election.

A new former member of the guerrilla group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP), a signatory of the 2016 Peace Accords with the Colombian State, was assassinated in the town of San José del Guaviare.

In Asia, North and South Korea reestablished direct communication channels, 13 months after the North unilaterally cut them off due to propaganda activity from Seoul. South Korean presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun said that the top leaders of both countries spoke on Tuesday morning for three minutes.

Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador cited the results of the latest presentation at the UN of a resolution on the need to end the blockade, where the only two countries that voted against were the United States and Israel while 184 did so in favor.
