The latest edition of the report “The State of Food Security”, with an updated estimate of the number of people suffering from hunger in the world, will be announced on Monday at the United Nations (UN) headquarters.

The presentation marks the beginning of a new era in the monitoring of the progress made in achieving a world free of hunger and malnutrition, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), the World Food Program (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) collaborated for the report.

The report provides an updated assessment of the number of people suffering from hunger in the world, the most recent data on children with stunted growth due to poor diet, as well as obesity in adults and children. This is an important measure in relation to the overall progress towards the “Zero Hunger” SDGs, while offering an analysis of the factors of hunger and malnutrition, and this year pays special attention to the impact of the slowdown and decrease in the economy.
