Severe and worrying political crisis shakes Haiti

Since February 7, Haiti has again alarmed the region amid strong protests. Fundamentally Port-au-Prince, the capital, lives an excessive violence. Again, we see a picture of the end of last year. Only three months and the chaos returns to reign for the same reasons that the Haitian people do not just see a solution.
The high cost of living, the well-known case of corruption associated with PetroCaribe, which involves billions of dollars in the poorest country in the Americas; and that is why they demand the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse.
History repeats itself
Let’s understand that this is a scenario already known in Haiti for generations. Those who experienced the third military intervention of the United States in 2004, as a result of a supposed response to the armed revolt against former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He had assumed the presidency in February 2001, after winning the elections. But he soon received serious criticism for not containing corruption or improving the dying economy of the country.
The anti-Aristide demonstrations led to violent clashes in Port-au-Prince, with several fatalities. At that time, Caricom supported the peace process, as it does now. Caricom accused the United States, France and the international community of fail in Haiti, for allowing a coup against a democratically elected president.
By then, the US government declared that the crisis was motivated by Aristide, who did not act in the best interest of Haiti, and that his expulsion was necessary for the stability of the country. Go they always manage to judge and then justify their blows. By the way, the OAS did not make statements about the coup.
When the protests last November took place, the Organization of American States, which also includes Haiti, only sent condolences to the families and relatives of the victims of the riots. Until today, the OAS classifies as part of that international community that does not speak or decide in favor of “really” improving the situation of the Haitian people.
Meanwhile, they do wear out in absurd pronouncements against peaceful and transparent processes such as the constitutional referendum for which we have agreed to vote in Cuba. Or they bend to the dishonest tricks and coups of States that the United States promotes in the region, as is evident during these weeks of tension that Venezuela is experiencing. And, even before that, we have already seen the OAS fall short of its own operating principles.
And so, as things are today in Haiti and how they could be aggravated, it is necessary not to lose sight of the reality and functioning of that nation. Quite similar to the context of 2004. The head of state and the prime minister have called for dialogue, and opposition politicians have turned a deaf ear.
The insecurity of Haiti is today a vulnerability that seriously compromises the lives of all its inhabitants. And worst. The powerful governments, the same ones that prepare armies and military coalitions, that were colonizers and that have sometimes had to do with Haiti, do not get there with the best intentions.
Nor do they speak about the reality that exposes a country in the midst of a severe and worrying political crisis. Haiti may not be the paradise where many aspire to live, but geo-strategically, it may be convenient geographical disposition, and more than enough to settle there those who seek fertile territory where to plant military bases in the Caribbean.
