Havana World Music has a date

The organization of the Havana World Music (HWM) festival, one of the mostimportant musical events in the country, has announced that the next edition will take place on March 21, 22 and 23, 2019, in which it has become its usualvenue, the Metropolitan Park of Havana.

After closing an earlier edition with a public record, marked by the return to the Cuban stages of the Orishas trio, the festival sponsored by the Cuban Music Instituteand the National Center of Popular Music, will bring back to the capital its particular fusion of traditional rhythms and musical avant-garde.

“In this new edition, we will continue working on what we believe is our hallmark,”said Eme Alfonso, artistic director of the festival. “The best thing about all these years of work is known that there is an audience that comes to the event, with an open mind and ready to be surprised by new sounds”.

Artists from Brazil, Canada or India will participate in the next edition of the festival.In addition, the singer will return to the stage to present his new work “VOY”. The organization of Havana World Music has also revealed some names of artists from the patio who will participate in the festival.

The musical phenomenon of the moment, Erick Iglesias, better known as Cimafunk will be oneof the outstanding artists of the poster, after having emerged as the winner of the First Base for New Musical Proposals contest of the last edition.

As in previous editions, the roots of Cuban music and culture will occupy a privileged place in programming. From Baracoa will arrive the group that keeps alive the rhythmsNengón and Kiribá, predecessors of the Cuban son. Another of the bastions of Cuban music, the rumba, will be present at HWM at the hands of one of the bestand longest groups:The Matanzas Cartoons.

For New Musical Proposals

With the next edition of Havana World Music, the contest for young promises of Cuban music also returns. The original projects integrated by artists under 32 years oldwill be able to participate in this call, in which the winners will receivetraining workshops thanks to the collaboration of the British Council, as wellas sharing a poster with internationally recognized artists. The call will beopen in the first days of January.
