Fidel and Mandela: ¨Make the world a better place.¨

New York: the Nelson Mandela´s International Day in this year 2018, sets the centenary of his birth. This date was proclaimed by the UN in 2009 to acknowledge the contribution by the former President of South Africa to the culture of peace and freedom.
When we celebrate his centenary, the ideal of this symbol of the fights against the Apartheid and in defense of his country,-South Africa- and the African continent remains pendant: Mandela dreamt of making the world a better place.
The South African leader spoke about peace as the creation of an environment in which everyone could make prosperity, independently of the race, color, belief, religion, sex, class, publishes this Sunday Radio Rebelde.
Nelson Mandela spoke about the eradication of poverty, when he qualified it not as a gesture of charity but as an act of justice. After 27 years of unjust imprisonment, Mandela turned in 1994 the first black President in South Africa.
At the headquarters of the General Assembly of the UN he spoke for the only time on September 21st 1998.
He always carried Cuba in his soul, like Cuba and Fidel made it always with his figure and in the contribution to finally reach the end of the regime of the Apartheid after the victory in Angola soils which changed the face of the Southern African Cone.
Fidel and Mandela: more than friends, brothers.
Fidel and Mandela, a brotherhood which emerged in the example and the ideas. A friendship of brothers, where always shone the defense of the most just causes.
When are you coming to Cuba? My brother Fidel has not come visiting me to South Africa? Asked Mandela to Fidel in one of his meetings.
Fidel and Mandela met first in Havana in July 1991, Fidel will visit South Africa in 1998 and they would meet again in 2001.
The General Assembly of the UN, in the context of its period of sessions number 73 paid homage, from the figure to extend his example of humbleness, passion and respect to the rest of the world.
That is why this Monday was celebrated a summit of Peace in the name of the South African leader, a tribute which counted on the presence of the Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
About the figure of Nelson Mandela, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution said:
¨He was an honorable man, deep revolutionary and radically socialist, who with great stoicism could bear 27 years of prison in isolation. I could not stop admiring his modesty and huge merit.¨
