The president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), Esteban Lazo Hernández, presided over the Cuban delegation to the first part of the 5th. World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, organized virtually by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the cooperation of the Austrian Parliament and the United Nations.
The event was attended by 150 world leaders from such institutions, other legislators, experts and representatives of the UN, who debated on the mobilization of the international parliamentary community in the face of the health, climate and economic crises that the peoples and the planet face.
The topics covered were about health, climate and the economy; the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, in addition to the relationship between science, technology and ethics, in order to find urgent solutions to new global challenges, reports the information from the Cuban News Agency.
At the conference, a final declaration was approved based on the reports presented by the nations that defend an effective multilateral strategy at the service of peace and sustainable development, and it was agreed to hold the second part of the exchange in 2021 in Vienna, Austria, in his usual face-to-face form.
Cuba has belonged to this organization since 1977 and 24 years later it celebrated Chapter 105 of the World Conference, in whose plenary session, on April 5, 2001, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz spoke.
