Cuba celebrates 58 years since the beginning of the Internationalist Medical Cooperation

Cuba commemorates this Sunday the 58th anniversary of the beginning of internationalist medical cooperation.
On May 23rd , 1963, Algeria received the first Cuban health mission.Since then, 420,000 professionals have been present in 150 countries, saving 8,700,000 human lives, according to data from the Cuban Ministry of Health.
Comprehensive medical assistance programs in Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil; emergency aid after the earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti, assistance in the face of natural disasters in Latin America and Africa and the confrontation with Ebola in that continent, stand out in the history of solidarity written by Cuban medicine.
Currently more than 30,407 health professionals are found in 66 nations, distributed in permanent medical brigades.
In the context of the pandemic, Cuba sent around 57 groups of the contingent specialized in disaster situations and serious epidemics, Henry Reeve, to contribute to the fight against Covid-19 in 40 States and territories.
