China condemns US restrictions to inter-village exchanges

China rejected the policy of the United States to limit and restrict social and cultural exchanges between people and sectors of both peoples, a practice that today damages bilateral ties.
In his usual press conference, the spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Geng Shuang, described that position of Washington as erroneous and repressive.
The comments of the spokesman of the Beijing Foreign Ministry arise after reports that Xifeng Wu, a well-known cancer researcher of Chinese-American descent, had to resign this year to a senior position at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, after months of research on their professional ties with China.
According to Geng, those discriminatory practices by the US government must stop.
We hope that the US side will consider the development of China and Sino-US relations in an appropriate way and work with the Asian giant to maintain and improve bilateral contacts and cooperation in sectors and people.
The people-to-people exchanges between the two nations are essential to promote mutual understanding and stable development of ties, the spokesman added.
According to Geng, in recent years more and more universities, think tanks, research institutes and academics in the United States praised the cooperation with Chinese partners and criticized the White House’s erroneous practices in that regard.
Trying to stop the development of China by restricting cultural exchanges and between peoples is ridiculous, the official said.
The relations between China and the United States today live in a state of tension greater than usual, since March of 2018 began a costly trade war when he alternated a mutual establishment of heavy taxes on imports.
