Five other new hotels are included as of Tuesday in the controversial list of Cuban entities and sub-entities restricted to Americans by decision of the government of President Donald Trump.
The Trump administration prevents its citizens from enjoying Cuban tourist instances
The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, announced last Friday that this list would once again be expanded, first announced in November 2017 as part of the Trump administration’s measures to further limit trade with the Caribbean island and the trips of the Americans .
As of Tuesday, and as is the case with more than 200 entities and sub-entities, Americans are prohibited from making direct financial transactions with the Grand Hotel Bristol Kempinski, located in Havana; and Grand Aston Varadero Resort, located in the famous resort of Varadero, Matanzas.
The Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort and Spa, the Grand Muthu Imperial Hotel and the Grand Muthu Rainbow Hotel, all three located in the Jardines del Rey archipelago, are also banned for North American travelers.
Cuba has qualified that list as arbitrary
This is the fifth time that the US executive updates the list to include new names, as previously he did so in November 2018, and in March, April and July 2019.
Cuba has described that list as arbitrary, made up of a diversity of structures supposedly linked to the defense and national security sector.
It includes from the Ministries of the Armed Forces and Interior, and the National Revolutionary Police, to companies, corporations, the Mariel Special Development Zone, and the Mariel and Havana Container Terminals, in addition to a large number of hotels.
One more step to end the legacy of Barack Obama
The relationship is part of the many measures taken by the Trump administration following the decision of the Republican to reverse the process of rapprochement initiated by the two countries during the executive of his predecessor, Barack Obama (2009-2017).
Pompeo’s announcement that the list would be extended was announced a day before November 16, when Cuba celebrated the 500th anniversary of the founding of its capital, Havana, an event around which important activities were carried out to national and international level.
According to a statement from the secretary of state, the date chosen for the new attack against the island was related precisely to that commemoration. Through his statement, Pompeo accused the authorities of the neighboring territory of failures in his economic management and of alleged violations of human rights, while again mentioning the solidarity of Cuba with Venezuela and the constitutional government of Nicolás Maduro.
That text again omitted the serious economic damage caused to Cuba by the blockade imposed by Washington almost 60 years ago, a policy condemned once again this month at the UN by the overwhelming majority of the international community and considered the main violation of human rights of the Cubans.
