The new Constitution project enshrines the rights of all Cubans

The proposed new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba has among its strengths the expansion of the rights of citizens. If you consciously participated in the debates on the project, inside or outside the country, you know that it gives greater visibility to a wide range of rights, in line with the international instruments of which Cuba is a party in this matter.

They emphasize those related to the right to defense, due process, popular participation and reformulate the economic and social, in particular health and education, which are maintained as a function of the State and free of charge. The right to equality in that text is broadened by incorporating the color of skin, sex, race and is established as a novelty that people can go to court to claim the replacement of their rights or compensation or compensation for damages.

This December 10 celebrates the world on Human Rights Day, and so do we. We live in the safest country in the region, considered so by the United Nations since 2012, as it does not present a complex situation of violence and has great achievements in reducing crime. And as we walk peacefully through our streets, we need to pay attention to the health of Cuban children from 1 to 3 years old, who receive very special attention. Cuba is an example in the protection of children, says UNICEF.

The right to life is the first human right

You then see them grow and acquire degrees of schooling, and become college and more. And they are, in any part of the world, distinguished by their knowledge. The Cuban who walks through our streets knows it. And the Cuban who decided to emigrate, knows it too. Because he was born in a country where the right to life is the first human right that is defended.

Because children, adolescents and young people constitute highly prioritized groups in the social policies of the State, supported by legal norms of protection of their rights. Because we do not know on this earth what the repression of citizens or workers looks like, nor the dismissal of teachers, nor the cuts of social programs. According to the World Health Organization, we are the nation with the best doctors per population. That there are still some forms of discrimination, serious economic problems that impact on personal and work performance, and even the enjoyment of some rights, I fully endorse it … But you expressed it in the popular consultation, incorporating rights that strengthen, in the law of laws, the regime of guarantees of citizens and the duty of action of the State.

Popular participation is the most democratic of rights

A sample of popular participation and how you contribute, think and take into account, another human right. Because the Constitution does not directly solve the economic problem of a country, but it does lay the foundations for the formulation of policies and the decision making that will be made by the organs of power according to the citizens.
