Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba, congratulated on Twitter the Cuban teachers, on the occasion of celebrating the Educator’s Day in the Caribbean nation. recognition for his daily and exalting contributions to the revolutionary work. #SomosCuba #SomosContinuidad, the president wrote on the social network.
The publication adds that recognition, which is already a tradition for Cubans, takes on a special dimension because, like every December 22, this Sunday, it is the Educator’s Day in our archipelago; and, in addition, he recalls the epic Literacy Campaign that 58 years ago declared Cuba free territory of illiteracy.
The current school year began with good news: teacher coverage is 95 percent, which predicted a superior quality of the teaching-educational process. To cover the remaining percent, alternatives were used, such as hourly contracts, the support of university students or the increase in the teaching load of teachers in practice with payment through Resolution 249 of 2016.
The salary increase was an indisputable architect of a good part of that achievement. More than 9,000 teachers decided not to leave the classrooms or rejoin the more than 10,000 educational institutions attended by 1,700,000 students, says the source.
