American filmmaker and activist Michael Moore believes today that independent senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders can defeat the country’s president, Republican Donald Trump, in the 2020 elections.

The award-winning documentary filmmaker said in an interview with the MSNBC television network that the weakness of the current head of the White House, who was formally accused last week and must face a political trial in the Senate, could make the Sanders campaign successful on next year.

In addition, he noted that the progressive legislator is being perceived by voters as a true alternative, and that could also be a boost for his presidential aspirations.

Asked about whether Sanders, who is 78, would go far for four years in office at the head of the nation, Moore replied that on Saturday he saw the senator deliver a speech “that lasted an hour and a half” and in which “he did not use that lectern as a crutch or anything. ‘

He stood there and powerfully told people what we have to do to make this a better country, it was amazing, he added.

The filmmaker, who in 2016 supported the legislator for Vermont over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the primaries of that year, last October he announced his support for Sanders again in the middle of a large field of blue force pre-candidates, in which 15 contestants still compete.

The filmmaker added in October that Sanders ‘absolutely’ could win the Democratic nomination, and cited a poll released at the time that showed the member of the Upper House ahead of Trump in Iowa, the state where the primary election process begins.

Sanders has remained during the year in second place in the average of surveys of the RealClearPolitics digital portal among all the candidates, only behind former Vice President Joe Bien.
