Date: None
The government of France reiterated this Sunday its condemnation of the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
On its website, the upper house of parliament disseminates the French position, expressed by the Foreign Ministry in response to the senator by Martinique, Catherine Conconne, who on November 28 asked Quai d’Orsay for the gala position in the face of strengthening hostility from the White House to the island.
According to the written response, France considers Washington’s decision to activate the section that seeks to deprive Cuba of foreign investments, based on its extraterritorial nature, in violation of International Law, to be unacceptable. The United States threatens our economic sovereignty, trying to dissuade companies, especially European companies, willing to enroll in investments on the island, he said.
The Foreign Ministry recalled on December 19 the norm 2271 adopted by the European Council in 1996, when the US Congress passed the Helms-Burton Act, which codifies the blockade, to protect the interests of the European Union from the application of extraterritorial laws.
The Brussels text does not know on European soil any administrative or legal measure issued by a third country for the materialization of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, activated last May after previous administrations in the White House refrained from do what. Paris ratified that it will seek with its partners new resources to protect European interests and companies in the greater of the Antilles.
